  3. Piazza De Ferrari

Piazza De Ferrari

Piazza De FerrariPiazza De Ferrari is Genova’s main square. At the centre there is a large fountain, with a series of spouts around its edge which create a fantastic effect.
The way the square looks today is the result of a number reconstruction works on the paving and the fountains that were carried out for the occasion of the Colombo celebrations (for the five hundredth anniversary of the discovery of America) and for the displays for Genova 2004 (Genova European Capital of Culture).
A number of historic palaces overlook the square, including the Carlo Felice Theatre, the Academy of Fine Arts, the Borsa Palace, The offices of the Region of Ligura and the Doge’s Palace.
The square is situated a little bit higher than the surrounding historic centre which extends out in a dense network of caruggi until it reaches the ancient port.
Piazza de Ferrari represented, before the Genovese movida moved to Piazza delle Erbe, a meeting point for many young people. Nevertheless the square can still be considered as the cultural, commercial, and financial centre of the city.
The events that are held in the Ligurian capital cannot exclude involving this special place.
