PLANETS Project Home PLANETS Project - Probabilistic Long-Term Assessment of New Energy Technology Scenarios

WP 9 Management

Objectives

This workpackage consists of administration and management of the project. In order to ascertain a well balanced management of the project, there are management tasks involved at both the workpackage level and for the project as a whole. All partners have a role to play in managing the constituent parts of PLANETS, and in particular each workpackage leader in guaranteeing the effective and efficient coordination of the workpackage they are responsible for. For a project like PLANETS, with many constituent tasks and different work efforts, it is essential that all these elements are well tuned, balanced and orchestrated. FEEM therefore has as the prime responsibility to ascertain the overall management of the project. It will be assisted herein by ECN. All partners are expected to contribute to the success of this workpackage. The detailed management and organisational structure of the project is described in following Section 2.1.

Description of work

Task 9.1: Monitoring and coordination

Partners: FEEM, ECN, USTUTT, KANLO, ORDECSYS, CHALMERS, LEI and UNIMAN

The project co-ordinator FEEM will be responsible for the overall legal, contractual, financial and administrative management of the project, including the preparation and maintenance of the Consortium agreement and the management of the financial flows between the European Commission, the Co-ordinator and the partners. FEEM will provide continuous monitoring of the progress of individual elements and check on the overall coherence of the project. The second main partner, ECN, assists in this task. The co-ordinator FEEM will also communicate on all organisational and financial matters with the European Commission, and ensure close cooperation with relevant stakeholders. Notwithstanding the above, from the administrative and financial perspective, all Partners bear the same obligations towards the Commission and will offer basic support to the project co-ordinator for what concerns the administrative and financial matters.

Task 9.2: Web use

Partners: FEEM

Using the Internet as the main communication tool within the network and as a fast publishing platform towards the outside world, a central task to be handled by the co-ordinator is the continuous updating of the PLANETS website that will be constructed by FEEM, in order to provide optimum information flows into, within, and out of the PLANETS network. Moreover, FEEM will take care of organising and launching a series of e-conferences on the website.

Task 9.3: Reporting

Partners: FEEM and ECN

This task includes the usual reporting activities for EC projects (preparation of Periodic Reports to the EC for each reporting period and of the Final report). The first periodic report and the final one will include a plan for the use and dissemination of foreground. Moreover, PLANETS possesses a detailed publication plan that includes various outputs, ranging from notes on the modeling updates and baseline scenarios, to a large series of more extensive workpackage reports, up to scientific working papers aimed at serving as references on the design of models and policy simulations for global and European energy scenarios. Central to all these reports and publications is the derivation of practical policy recommendations that emerge from the project.

Task 9.4: Workshops

Partners: FEEM, LEI, ECN, KANLO, ORDECSYS

This task deals with the management of the project meetings. An initial kick-off meeting, followed by four workshops constitute the core of the events during which the scientific work achieved is reported. Each of the partners holding a workshop bears responsibility for its effective organisation. FEEM will make sure that the workshops are coordinated and balanced amongst each others and guarantees that the sequence of workshops leads to the deliverables as described and envisaged in PLANETS. FEEM will be helped herein by ECN.

Workpackage 9 is carried out under the co-ordination of FEEM
