PLANETS Project Home PLANETS Project - Probabilistic Long-Term Assessment of New Energy Technology Scenarios

WP 10 Dissemination

Objectives

The final workpackage concentrates on the internal and external dissemination of PLANETS. FEEM will ensure the lion’s share of the dissemination of the energy technology scenarios and publications by the PLANETS consortium. FEEM will be closely assisted in these tasks under this workpackage by ECN, in particular in publishing the two envisaged special issues. Especially the other modeling partners, however, will also contribute to realizing the publication of all partners’ articles in the foreseen special issues and help ascertaining their realization. In addition, a crucial component is to ensure a close dialogue in the framework of stakeholder consultations within and outside the Commission.

Description of work

Task 10.1: Results dissemination on the web

Partners: FEEM

In this task, all the main products of the project will be disseminated using the web. General recommendations and executive summaries will be circulated in academic and policy read mailing lists. A web site containing all the results will be set up, with different levels of interfaces. On a general level, graphical representation of PLANETS findings will be made available and downloadable. The underlying data will also be made searchable and open to download, so that similar or additional analyses can be achieved by researchers and policy makers outside the project. Innovative mathematical and computational material produced by the project may also be made available if the partners deem this suitable. Moreover, soon after each project workshop a dedicated e-conference about main scientific issues emerged during the meeting will be launched on the project website. Each e-conference will last one month and will involve: all the stakeholders previously identified by the Consortium (in D2), project partners, and registered users. The announcement of the PLANETS e-conferences will be published on the website with due advance to allow wide public participation.

Task 10.2: Scientific publications

Partners: FEEM and ECN

To ensure the maximum visibility and trustworthiness of the research work in PLANETS, the methodology used in the various phases of the project as well as the final results will be organized in scientifically edited publications that will be submitted to international journals. Potentially, two special issues containing all the research material will be arranged. Papers will nonetheless be peer reviewed to satisfy the standards of international publications and increase the reliability of the project.

Task 10.3: Local stakeholder meetings

In the course of project implementation several efforts will be devoted towards the involvement of relevant stakeholders in order to integrate their feedback on the outcomes of this project.More specifically, in the early beginning of the project each partner will identify and list the major stakeholders concerned by the energy sector in their Country (considering both the policy and the industrial spheres). The identified stakeholders will be continuously involved in the project discussions, by means of mailing lists, e-conferences and local meetings.

In particular, each project workshop will include a session devoted to the involvement of local stakeholders (mainly from the industry) in order to acquire their knowledge and raise their opinions about the national energy systems, focusing specifically on their perception on current and future energy technologies. Overall four local stakeholder meetings (France, Lithuania, Netherlands and Switzerland) will take place. Each of the partners in charge of a project workshop holds responsibility for the organization of the corresponding local workshop and for the involvement of local stakeholders. To optimize budget and time schedule, the local stakeholders meetings are organised in the four countries where workshops are held (Lithuania, the Netherlands, France and Switzerland). In order to ensure direct involvement of stakeholders from all countries concerned by PLANETS, the stakeholders from the four remaining countries (Germany, Italy, Sweden and UK) will be first identified by the related partners through a stakeholder list (D2) and then involved in the project implementation by means of on-line discussion (e.g. e-conferences).

Task 10.4: Concluding conference

Partners: FEEM and ECN

This last task will be to set up a final conference to make the project visible to all the interested stakeholders, as well as to a more general audience . Thematic sessions will be organized to present the results to representatives of both the sciences and policy-making. Round-tables will be set up to guarantee the best interchange among these various stakeholders. Selected representatives of the industry sector, previously involved in the local meetings, will also be invited at this conference. Copies of the publications will be circulated, and the website (task 10.1) will be publicized. Press representatives will be invited to ensure a wide media coverage. The conference will be held in Brussels so to ensure a high turnout and EU visibility. Public participation will be free of charge.
