PLANETS Project Home PLANETS Project - Probabilistic Long-Term Assessment of New Energy Technology Scenarios

The project will be conducted over 30 months and organized in ten work packages with the following contents:

Workpackage 1: Updating and extending the models WP1

The core models of PLANETS are updated and extended for joint policy simulations.

Workpackage 2: Developing baseline scenarios WP2

A uniform set of baseline scenarios is developed, based on the same business-as-usual assumptions for all six models involved.

Workpackage 3: Technology assessments I WP3

A comprehensive technology assessment is made focusing on short-term competitiveness and long-term sustainability aspects.

Workpackage 4: Technology assessments II WP4

A comprehensive technology assessment is made focusing on transition energy technologies that can reduce carbon emissions in the short term.

Workpackage 5: Developing policy scenarios WP5

A set of scenarios is generated under different environmental and energy policies.

Workpackage 6: Running stochastic scenarios WP6

A set of stochastic numerical simulations is performed, analyzing the robustness of scenario results and conclusions.

Workpackage 7: EU policy recommendations WP7

EU policy recommendations are generated expanding on the lessons learned from the individual modelling exercises.

Workpackage 8: Scientific coordination WP8

The research produced throughout the project is coordinated in order to ensure scientific harmonization and interchange across different models and technology assessments.

Workpackage 9: Management WP9

The overall project is coordinated so as to establish close links between both the different workpackages and the participating institutions.

Workpackage 10: Dissemination WP10

The project results are communicated internally and to the outside world through a website, e-conferences, reports, local meetings, peer reviewed publications in scientific journals and a final conference. The design of the workpackages emphasizes a participatory approach by establishing not only a tight network between researchers, but also an advisory process with European authorities and stakeholders that serves shaping the policy scenarios and evaluating them as to their desirability and policy relevance.
