Stavros Papageorgiou joined Conservation International in January 2009 as the Project Manager for Forest Carbon Initiatives. In this role, he provides technical assistance to CI’s regional field programs in the design and implementation of forest carbon projects. He also supports the development and delivery of training events related to climate change and REDD-plus in countries where CI operates. Prior to joining CI, Stavros held consultancies at the International Institute for Environment and Development in London, where he conducted research on REDD initiatives worldwide, and at the Global Canopy Programme on Oxford, where he researched and published on the economic value of rainforest conservation. In 2007, Stavros worked at Conservation International’s field office in the Madre de Dios region of Peru, serving for the European Voluntary Service of the European Commission, where he led the design of a public Payment for Ecosystem Services program in cooperation with the local municipality of Tambopata.

A Greek and Italian national, he holds a Bachelor/Masters Degree in Economics and Management from the Luigi Bocconi Business School in Milan, Italy and a Masters of Science Degree in Environmental Change and Management from the University of Oxford, UK, where he completed a dissertation on the willingness to accept compensation for REDD among rural communities in the Peruvian Amazon. He is fluent in four languages including Greek, Italian, English and Spanish.
